Essentially — I’m assuming this is meant for high end games as the top-most priority. Games rely heavily on GPU power. Not so much CPU. You’re spending far too much on the new Nehalem Processors, far too much than necessary and not enough on the Graphics card. I suggest switching to a Q6600 or lower end CPU. Get a P35/45 motherboard and any DDR2 RAM. Then invest in a GTX280 or HD4870 or HD4870X2. These are far better at performing in games than SLI 9800GT. Which is very inefficient in cost/performance. This way you will get far more performance for the money. May I also note that you’re paying far too much for this build.

I recently purchased a Panasonic DMP-BDT210 Integrated-Wi-Fi 3D Blu-ray DVD Player with Skype, and my current webcam does not connect. It is an older Logitech (round) but not sure what kind. Do I need a specific TV webcam or am I simply not connecting properly or missing a step? The manual does not give any information on what kinds of cameras it is compatible with. I am not very tech savvy in this department so any help would be great. I think I found an answer. See if you can update your webcam driver so it is compatible. If not, try this software because I have had a lot of success with this driver working.

Just curious. L645d-s4052 I asked in general because last time I asked specifically, how many MP were in the laptop’s webcam I got no answers. So, sorry. Do you know what I found? Hello, The installed camera MP is about 3 to 5 or so. That will work good. The built in webcam on your Toshiba is a fairly good quality one. It should serve you well for all your web calls and what ever else you want. The picture quality is good for your average uses. But, if you really want to buy a top quality one for fast action or whatever, of course you can find one, if you want to spend the extra money for it. . Probably around $ 100. But, I do think your built in one will serve you well. . . . If you already have a good digital camera, I think there might be a way of using it as a webcam, if it will shoot video clips. Some software might be needed to make it work, but if you can go to a Best Buy or anywhere that has electronic gadgets, they should be able to help you more.

I’ve been searching on the net to see if there’s any way around this and there are so many conflicting answers. I only have USB ports on my laptop and wondered if I could get a USB to firewire adaptor. Some reports on the net say this is impossible though I have found any on the net for sale. Are these useless then? If anyone has used one of these I’d be very grateful for feedback. Alternatively, my partner has a laptop with a card slot but he has Vista which he’s had problems with installing things like webcams etc so if we used his would we face problems? What about a USB/IEEE1394 Combo Hub? Would this work? Wahi, can you remember which model it was? I have seen any nice Sonys on the market. Just to add, I know I can use USB for stills but I’m talking actual video footage. Rob K – no I don’t have a card slot, as stated in the question, hence my question if there’s a way around it. I think I’m just going to try and edit footage using my partner’s laptop which as I’ve said does have a card slot but has Vista instead of XP which has caused problems in the past. I think I found an answer. Some camcorders now support video transfer via USB 2. 0 – your camcorder does not seem to be one of them. Is it one of Panasonic’s offerings? I ask this because I have a PV-GS65, which transfers stills via USB, but not video. USB-to-FireWire converters don’t exist. There’s a lot of technical stuff related to why, but my expertise doesn’t include the finer points of USB and FireWire. Suffice it to say, this doesn’t exist. They’re just completely different systems. From what I understand, combo hubs may contain both ports, but they don’t transfer data between the two. They’ll keep the USB stuff to the USB ports, and the FireWire stuff to the FireWire ports. Your best bet seems to be trying the card slot, even though it’s Vista on there. I can’t guarantee that it will work, but it certainly should. I’m not sure what problems were presented by the webcams, but devices like that sometimes have problems being recognized. My guess is that internal cards won’t present the same problems. Maybe talk to any actual computer experts to figure this out, though. I’m best with the stuff that plugs into the computers, not the computers themselves. But yeah, if your camcorder only supports video transfer via FireWire, then that’ll be the only way to go. You’ll need any way to get your computer to accept it. Good luck, and post if you need anything else. EDIT: I misread your question initially, thought you already had a camera that didn’t support USB streaming. The next option, then, might be to find out if your laptop’s USB ports are USB 2. 0, then find a camcorder that supports this for video streaming. If not, go for the FireWire card in that card slot.

2 questions: 10) what is a “privacy shade”? And 2) what is a “1. 3 megapixel sensor”? I guess means something other than 1. 3 megapixels. Well, I have your answer. A privacy shade is a small curtain you put over the lens so that the camera does not film something it shouldn’t, for example if you forgot that it automatically switches on as you enter a chat room, or call somebody on skype. It looks like this: (second row of pics from bottom, middle image). 1. 3 MP sensor does mean it is capable of physically capturing 1. 3 MP image, but don’t be excited. The webcams mostly have very poor optics and the sensor, albeit may be 1. 3 mp is very tiny and poor quality. So don’t expect to be able to take pictures anywhere near the quality of 1. 3mp camera with actual lens and likely a bigger sensor. Most cheap photo cameras will do better job. Just take it for what it is a web camera, so that you can chat with video. That’s what it’s made for, nothing else. LEM.

I am looking for webcams with a built in microphone and speakers to talk to my family back home on skype any suggestions. Well, I have your answer. Go for logitech – with integrated microphone. Try buying the more expensive webcam (logitech makes some cheap webcams for less than 30$ – ignore them). For best sound quality buy headphones with a microphone. The reason for not having both speakers and mic in one is simple: microphone would record sound from the speakers what cause a nasty sound loop. It might be easy to remove the sound from mic – but there are some problems with that.
LOGITECH QUICKCAM PRO 9000 or LOGITECH ULTRA VISION WEBCAM If I shouldn’t buy those, which of these webcams should I get? Quickcam pro 9000 is a bit cheaper and people told me that Logitech is best. I will probably get it. Should I. I was so glad to find this — If you compare the two cameras side by side, you’ll see that the 9000 actually has better specs (2 megapixel vs. 1. 3) and zeiss lenses. If you have the desktop space, or will be using with desktop (or infrequently with laptop) consider the orbit AF (also logitech – $99) . It is a really neat camera – pan & tilt – and same specs as 9000 Good Luck

What are advantages and disadvantages for putting webcams and mics at each director/manager’s computer so they can quickly chat with our communication/advertising department on new ideas they have submitted without having to leave their office. Most have laptops, so we would only be buying a couple of webcams. Is it really worth it though, since most of the time the people are right down the hall? I am just thinking from a creative stand point, it keeps our advertising director from having to leave his office, potentially getting side tracked and getting his mind out of the creative loop. (it’s a fragile thing). After looking around, I learned — What does your IT department say about the network traffic this will generate? Are they equipped to handle it or will your routers and switches require an upgrade of either software or hardware, or both. Recognize that once your personnel have the new equipment they will use it for personal as well as business conversations. On the other hand, once the new equipment is distributed, it will facilitate electronic meetings.
